Title: Joining the club
Post by: brider on November 17, 2017, 06:59:16 AM
I have friend that is going to rejoin and asked me where the on line sign up is at.  I don't see it jumping off the page at me either.  Can someone point it out to me? Thanks.

Have them go to www.ridemsta.com.  Click on the MEMBERSHIP link near the top.

When visiting the web site, there needs to big, obvious buttons on the home page:
1. JOIN NOW
2. UPCOMING EVENTS
3. MEMBER BENEFITS

I was thinking the exact same thing along with every stinking thing MSTA related that post on that god awful Facebook should show up here as a thread.

Issue is for many "the website" is the forum, that is the page they go to and none of that is there. There's also no link to the main MSTA page on the forum, even clicking the MSTA icon just goes to the Forum home page. That's always seemed incorrect to me, unless all we have is the Forum and no MSTA main page. I just don't understand why it has been this way. If nothing else, we should have a link (call it MSTA Home if you need a name/text) on the Forum that goes to the home page. Or add links to Forum page for the Membership and other pertinent areas of the main site.

I have 2 bookmarks in my browser MSTA Forum and MSTA Home to help me remember there is another area with the other stuff I need.

Sorry Pat but I'm with Steve and Norm on this one.

Sorry Pat but I'm with Steve and Norm on this one.

I am also in favor of a revamping of the MSTA Home page/website.  Norm and I have already been talking about it.  I wish I knew how to do that stuff, but I don’t so I can’t help.

But there IS a link from the forum to the website and it’s pretty easy to find IMO.  Steve had said that there was no link and I was merely pointing out where to find it.....right where it says “MSTA Website/the Home page” in the main forum section.

If you open automatically to the Forum as I do, getting back to the Homepage is the 5th item down on the list "MSTA Website."

Finding the info on how to join or renew takes some detective work but it's there because I tried it this morning.  Unfortunately, it's not a big red button on the Homepage that screams "Join Now!" at you.

I've never noticed that before and I visit the forum pretty regularly. But the first thing I usually do is click the "show unread posts since last visit link".  Also no website I've ever been on used an entry half way down the page go get you to the main site. Let alone a forum where that area is usually taken up by forum posts, topics, areas, etc.

The MSTA Website link needs to be more prominent, at least as a link along with the Home Help Search set along the top. Good to hear there are plans to revamp the site. While I work with computers and write software I'm not a web developer so don't know much about that stuff.

So yes I was wrong I admit it, technically there is a link, but I think we'd all agree it can be better.

OK everyone, not sure why I'm late to this discussion but I hear you and will make some changes.
I agree with most of the above.  And I am open to discussion.

This link was always there but the label was unclear. Last week I changed the label to say MSTA Home Page after I got the same complaint from a subscriber.

I can change the text for the menu items, I had already changed "Membership" to "Join Us!".
I don't see a way to change font size or color but there must be a way, I will keep looking.

On my screen (which is an old school 19") there is no more space for additional menu items. Do we need back issues up there? I and also planning to consolidate help and about.

Back issues probsbly need to be kept to a minimum....no more than the current and/or past year I would think would be enough.  But since we are doing them quarterly now, it might be enough to just have the current issue up.  Especially if we need the space to put up larger Join Now, Event, and Benefits information.

Bob,
The JoinUs! you're referring to, that is on MSTA home page, correct?

The issue we're talking about is a lack of visilibilty on the Forum page where we need links pages to the main MSTA home page, joining, events.

Steve I was reading Norm and Pats comments as regarding the  website home page (correct me if I am wrong Norm and Pat), but I agree those links should also be prominent on the Forum. While the homepage should be just that the reality is that the forum is for many if not most is the real home. I intend to get these improvents done soon but the imediate task is getting the 2018 event pages ready for the new year.

Good deal Bob, not sure what Norm/Pat intended, it does say home page, but as we've discussed to many that is the forum. Since Norm/Pat are working on planned improvements I'll let them provide the direction.
