2018 Events?
« on: October 30, 2017, 09:38:32 AM »
Will the EC be issuing a SAVE THE DATES type of announcement for 2018 events?  Some of us have to plan early.

THANKS to all those involved in event planning.

Usually comes out mid-December to early January.  All depends on when the event coordinators get that info into the EC and it can be put into a schedule.  The EC does not make up the schedule and tell people when to have events.  The people having events tell the EC when they want to have them.    :)

...therein lies the rub with having the event schedule early.  And if I'm not mistaken Janet Campbell who was Event Coordinator has given up her post and no new person has not been named.

you are correct, Janet and Jon have stepped down at National Event coordinators and no one has stepped up to take it on, as of yet.

Bermuda Ron - here's a perfect opportunity to volunteer and get a good inside look at how the club functions.  We wouldn't have a club or any events without volunteers!  :-)

National Events Coordinator is something that anyone with a computer and access to a post office or shipping  company could handle, BUT it will be a lot easier (and cheaper) for someone that lives within the 48 continuous states to administer.  As I see it the job has two main responsibilities. ONE is to make sure that all of the AMA paperwork for the club and it’s AMA sanctioned events is dispensed to the event coordinators and sent into the AMA as is required.  TWO is to make sure that the club’s materials and equipment is maintained and shipped to the various events/organizers that request it.  This would be such things as banners and projectors.  Mailing and/or shipping of these items to and from Bermuda would be expensive.

But as the number of AMA sanctioned events dwindles, it becomes less time consuming.

Oh... I just assumed Bermuda in his handle was a nickname and not where he actually lived.  :-(

Gents, once the powers-that-be let us retire to western North Carolina, I'll be most happy to be on the volunteer list!  That's a few years off right now. (I do try to help out at the events I attend, and have brought in at least one sponsor and a few members).  Again, thanks to those who are involved in the planning.  My suggestion of a "save-the-date" just means "here are the proposed events you can attend - details to be forthcoming".

You never met or talked to Bermuda Ron?  I had the pleasure at STAR 2016 in Stratton VT, and you can bet my first question was "so you really live in Bermuda?" even thought I had seen his name in the Blue Book showing that address.

Ron is a fine fellow. We discovered soon after meeting that we shared many things. We are both classically trained singers (he's still way better than me with one of those velvet baritone voices while I am a squeaky tenor, but I was a voice major in college), we've both directed church choirs for many years (I think he's still doing it although my backstage theatrical work has led me to give up that commitment and just play in the church handbell choir), and his wife's name is Cindy and my wife's name is Cindy. After rooming together at STAR in Vermont, Ron & I took the following few days and rode around in the NE checking out several of the cool roads we hadn't covered during the event. I have no doubt that Ron will contribute more to the MSTA in the future.
