Title: Anybody Recognize this Member Bike?
Post by: naustin on April 04, 2017, 12:53:43 PM
Wondering if anybody recognizes this bike - it has custom pin-striping, an aftermarket exhaust, and a MSTA sticker on the rear fender.   The motor is going to end up in my 2007, and I'd love some background....

Doesn't look familiar to me. Have you considered doing a check on the VIN?  I tried to find a decent free report online but wasn't having luck (using a bike I recently sold).

Nope I don't know.

BTW... what happened to the motor in your bike? How many miles? Not sure I've heard of anyone changing engines in an ST-1300!

I'll post the story when its all over.   For now - you can see why I need a need a new motor.  The bike only had 30K miles.   Was planning to be in CO the same week as STAR...   Trip is probably off the table at this point - Not sure yet.

Looks like something got into the cylinder and got smashed between the piston and the head and then cracked the cylinder letting in coolant, and now you've got coolant all mixed in with your oil (as seen in the oil window milky white)..so yeah sounds like a replacement engine is in order...but it begs the question....

What (and who) dropped something down into the intake and what were they working on at the time? (the dents look like a Woodruff key made them)

My bike was in the shop for a valve inspection, and this happened immediately after that, the first time it was started - & before the bike was delivered back to me.  So, my money is that it was a Valve Shim.

The red bike was totaled last fall sometime and came from the St. Louis area.   Supposedly the bike only had 16,000 miles...
