For clarification that date range is the traditional Sun-Wed, many people show up on Saturday, and you'll want to book your room through Wed night, checking out on June 27.

(Somebody asked me for the dates last weekend, I had June 23-27 in my calendar and then explained why to them, otherwise I might forget I need the room Wed night.)

Do we use the regular procedure to reserve rooms after we make our STAR registration or can we reserve rooms now at the MSTA rate?

Thanks,

Fred Z.

Fred, I don't know BUT I expect it will be like last year, registration will probably not be available until December.
I posted the dates because we have members who need to request vacation time in advance and the recent years date changes caused problems.

Who is the STAR Coordinator for STAR 2019?

I can give them some great advice, from what I learned with STAR 2018.

Regarding 2019 STAR, I'm seeing the dates for the event listed in several locations as June 22 - 26. While the closing banquet is Wednesday evening on the 26th the event technically ends the following day, Thursday morning as listed on the itinerary as "saying goodbyes."

My concern is the first time attendees may book their rooms to leave on the 26th and miss that days activities.
Should it not be listed everywhere as June 22 - 27th? -JEP-

Hi Doug,

What are the questions?  Maybe I can help here.

Also, as I think someone already said, the dates are listed as Sunday being the official start date with the following Thursday being the end date.  The "close" of STAR is Wednesday night after the banquet of course, but the listed dates are always carried to the following day -- Thursday.  And like Richard said, many, usually about half of those attending STAR are now arriving by Saturday - the day before the actual start.

By the way, the local team already has everything either done or already in the works.  They are totally on top of what needs to be done!  Yay!!!  And kudos.

Registration usually opens up mid-December, today is the 7th.  The final schedule is usually done several months before the start of STAR, which is over 6 mths. from now.  Routes, etc. will be released much closer to the date of the event so that they can be checked and finalized.  Hotel reservations usually open up when event registration does.

I suggest that if anyone has any questions or needs to contact anyone right now, and can’t wait until the information is posted up here and on the FaceBook STAR page, that they send an email to the EC...

The last two STARs, Deb & I arrived on Friday and were surprised to see so many members trying to get the jump on the Saturday early birds!

Well, if you have the time, why not. I was thinking the same thing if my schedule allows as time gets closer.  It's a one day ride for me (I could easily turn it in to 2) and have a place to stay waiting for me. :)  TM

I had someone who wanted to contact the Star 2019 committee or coordinator so they could volunteer.

You stated "By the way, the local team already has everything either done or already in the works.  They are totally on top of what needs to be done!"

So is the local team a secret! That the general membership is not to be aware of.
As a long time member I'd like to be aware of who is on the team and how to contact them.

It’s no secret that finding people to help out on many things is not hard to do.  Most of the members are ready willing and able to help when asked.

However, gettimg someone to step up and say, “I’ll take charge” is a whole different story.  Not complaining.  People have honest and legitimate reasons for not wanting to be THE person.  Believe me, I understand!  But for that reason, we don’t have “A” committee.  What we do have is some members, mostly local to the area, that have stepped up to help out  in specific areas....routes, lunch, etc.....that need to be set up prior to the event.  Dennis has been the Main coordinator of this so far.  He would “the” person to contact right now.  We will certainly need lots of people to help out AT the event and in the area closer to the time of the event, so additional volunteers are always needed and always welcome.

One thing we do need is someone to organize the raffle ticket sales AT the event.  We will be sending out tickets to all members sometime in January, and people will be able to buy tickets when they register online prior to the event, but we will still need someone to help, coordinate it there, along with people willing to help out.  Anyone interested in that can contact me.  Pat Mogavero

But ANY member, long term or short term or brand new, can contact me via email or phone or PM anytime they want...not just about STAR either.  I’m sure the other people in the club, no matter what position they hold, feel the same way.

Retired people have nothing but time, the rest of us have work limited vacation to deal with. But as a bachelor I also know my schedule is a lot more flexible than some, have a few retired friends that are now having grandchildren and seem to have very limited time for other things.

Many places can be a one day ride away, but if there are fun roads between here and there, and I don't need to be there until Sunday, or Saturday, I'll usually take 2 days.

I have not found that extra time yet.

Carl's comment about never having a day off is spot on. Retired folks tend to fill their plates to overflowing with volunteer activities that last year around.

When you volunteer once, it seems that the word gets out that Carl is always willing to help, and you get many calls.

I think that is how I became the STAR 2018 Coordinator.

One of my Volunteer Positions is: Carl's Escort Service.

I give our Grandsons rides to and from school when needed.  The pay is none, but I get lots of, "We Love You Grandpa."

Speaking of a STAR Coordinator or Committee, I think that should formed before a location is announced.

I’m very sure that everyone on the EC and in the club would certainly welcome anyone that wants to step up and volunteer to be the 2020 STAR coordinator and/or to serve on a STAR committee.  But in the absence of anyone doing that, we will still want STAR to go on and the planning for it won’t wait until then.

We used to have State groups compete for the honor of hosting a STAR, but it’s been some time since that has happened.  In the absence of that happening, STAR planning has fallen on the EC and those volunteers that we can find who are willing to help after the location has been chosen by the EC.  But the EC doesn’t choose a location until many different possibilities are looked at and discussed.  That's one of the reasons that all post STAR surveys always have a place for future STAR location suggestions.  I believe that Bristol was one of the suggestions given after the Vermont STAR.  IF we had a group of members come forward and say that they want to put it on themselves I can guarantee they would be met with open arms and enthusiasm.

If anyone wants to do that for 2020, they need to get organized very quickly though, there’s a lot of research and organization that happens before the announcement can be made.  If we still plan to make that announcement in June at STAR 2019, that doesn’t leave a whole lot of time.
