Title: Hotel rooms as of 3/11/18
Post by: Patmo on March 11, 2018, 01:55:51 PM

ATTENTION:

I registered for STAR yesterday Saturday the 10th and called  to reserve my room at the Radisson today Sunday the 11th.  I was informed that ALL of the double queen rooms were filled and they only had single king rooms still available.  Not just our block, but in the whole hotel.  I will call back tomorrow, Monday, and try to verify this with regular front desk staff.  If I find out anything different, I will post the correction.

BUT........

I called the overflow hotel...the Holiday Inn, downtown and reserved a double queen at the same price as what was at the Radisson.  I was informed that after I reserved my room they had MANY LEFT.  The phone number for the Holiday Inn is 608-784-4444.

How interesting I just now 5:00pm Sunday 3/11/18 called the Hiliday Inn to get a double queen. The person I spoke with said he had something like 50 rooms left. He also said that whoever called before didn’t speak with him and he was the one that we needed to speak with. Hmmm sorry I didn’t get his name.

BTW: I haven’t registered for STAR yet and didn’t have a STAR registration number to give him. Is that the way it’s supposed to work? Do we have to register for STAR first before we can get a room.

Not at the Holiday Inn....just have to call them and ask for the MSTA block.

When you register for STAR, the confirmation email has a direct link to the Radisson site.  Has a promo code (STAR18) that automatically comes up for the dates and gives you the special price of 115.00. But when I did that the only rooms that came up were single king rooms.  That’s when I called them to verify.

From a Dec. 14 posting.

If doing hotel reservations on line, and plan to stay extra days, you will find a glitch, and it will not take it.  I called the hotel and Debbie found the problem and was very helpful.  The rate goes back up after June 13, so the system will not take it.  She entered it manually for the days through June 13, at $115.00, then manually entered the next two days, but at a different rate.  If you qualify for any of the discounts, that can apply.  Mine was Retired Military and was only $8.00 per night more than the STAR18 rate.  STAR18 is getting a better rate than any possible normal discounts.  The MSTA Negotiators did a great job.

I called the Radisson Hotel today and they're out of rooms with 2 beds, they have rooms with a King bed with a rollaway bed
The Holiday Inn right across the street has around 20 rooms with 2 beds, same price as Radisson and you get the Radisson breakfast
Both hotels have the same MSTA price $115 plus tax
Book Early!!!!!

I remember from an early discussion that the Raddison had a limited number of 2-bed rooms while the Holiday Inn had more.

The Great River Bluffs State Park is 20 miles up the road in Minnesota, and that's where I'll be hanging my hat/helmet during the event (there are several commercial campgrounds even closer, but they tend to have more kids, etc.). During the week it is likely to be pretty deserted (while it overlooks the river, it's not "on" the river...I suspect it will attract fewer fishermen and boaters that way). I'm not trying to be anti-social...I'll be hanging around the hotels in LaCrosse from morning to evening to be around my fellow riders. But at the end of the day, I'll scoot on up the road 1/2 hour and settle into my sleeping bag.

If anyone is interested in sharing a site, let me know.

I'll be registering for the event this weekend. "I wanna ride, I wanna ride, I wanna ride, I wanna ride!!" (It's from an old Honda commercial)

That's not old Rich. Old is "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". And yes, sad to say I remember that one from the 60's.

You still remember it and know its origin. It's not sad if that's the case.

And I remember that one too. It was more that ad saying I quoted is how I feel about now. I haven't ridden any real miles since the end of the 2016 season. I'm suffering extreme withdrawal symptoms. :)

I average around 25k+ miles each year, and even have a normal total of around 1k in both January and February. This HAS been a bad year. In January 2018, I racked up a whopping 296 miles. But wait...I knocked that out of the park in February by 47 miles...a total of 343 miles. I feel sorry for you guys that live in a place where riding just isn't an option for several months of the year. But this year has been truly abominable for folks in some other parts of the country as well.

Just a personal observation from my visits to La Crosse; If you stay in the Holiday Inn the walk to the motorcycle parking is nearly the same as it is from the rooms inside the Radisson. The parking lot is just diagonal across the street, in other words very close.

That is correct! I think those staying in the Holiday Inn will want to park with those bikes in the Radisson parking lot. -JEP-

When looking at pictures I noticed how close the large parking lot at Radisson is to the Holiday Inn, is that a shared lot for both hotels? I don't see much parking there and wonder where they have their guests park, possibly a parking deck adjoining the building (corner of 2nd and Jay)? The few STARs I was at with parking decks killed the "walking the parking lot to look at bikes" time in the evenings.

STAR bikes will be parked in the open lot, per the Radisson.  There is a ramp across the street.  Trailers and tow vehicles will park a few blocks north in a public parking lot.  No camping.
We have been working on these details and have written approval from everyone, including the City of La Crosse.

FYI, that was my concern the first time I saw the lot in person last July, and then started the approval process for the public lot.  If you look on the map it is next to the Oktoberfest Grounds with a fence around it.

I just checked on the camp grounds near by, Pettibone just across the river, and Goose Island, a few miles south of town.  Both are open for business and reservations.  The flood waters have receded.   Pettibone told me that not all camp sites are cleaned up yet, but will be in about a week, so they will be in good condition by June 9.
These people have flooded areas along the river almost every year at some point, so they designed the campgrounds accordingly.

Re: Parking Lots

The Holiday Inn normally has guests park in the lot/structure just south of their hotel however the STAR kit in front of the Radisson is practically the same number of steps from a room in the Holiday Inn as it would be from a room in the Radisson, and as already mentioned there will be no problem for STAR attendees staying at hotels other than the Radisson parking their motorcycles in the Radisson parking lot.

Note: on most business days there are control gates/arms which govern access to the Radisson lot. My recollection was it was down and functioning on Saturday but not Sunday. For those motorcycle riders who are extreme rule followers you'll have to get the exit code from someone. For riders who don't mind slipping past the control arm, a bike can ride around it without much trouble.

Also of passing interest is the parking structure next to the Holiday Inn connects via a walkway to the west to the event center which then connects to the north to the Raddison. In inclement weather I would not be above parking in that covered lot and paying the fee.

The walk to the north lot is relatively unimpeded via the river walk and city park sidewalks. Personally I'd prefer it to be closer but it is way more convenient that overflow and trailer parking at many previous STARs.

I have always adored our stays in Avon for STAR but the overflow/trailer parking was not convenient, you had to make it through/across some rather busy streets and it was not particularly easy to run over there to retrieve things from trailer or truck.

What trailer parking they had planned in Colorado Springs was thoroughly sabotaged by the hotel, that turned in to a nasty mess.

In comparison to those this arrangement appears rather decent.

And we should be able to wander around all the bikes in the Radisson lot to our hearts content mere steps from either hotel's rooms.

Thanks for the feedback that clarifies things. So we might stop over the the Holiday Inn to check in, and unload but otherwise will park in the big main lot by the Raddison.
