Florida MSTA New Year's Day Lunch
« on: November 19, 2018, 03:12:49 PM »
When: Tuesday, January 1, 2019, 12:00 – 2:00pm

Where: Peck's Old Port Cove
139 N Ozello Trail, Crystal River, FL 34429, USA

Description:
A NEW YEAR'S DAY LUNCH RIDE is the perfect excuse to put on the very first miles of the new year.  FL MSTA is uniting to do just that by resuming the annual New Year's day lunch ride to Pecks Old Port Cove near Crystal River.  The ride was originated and made popular by past co-director Bill Royal.  This ride will double as the January Central Lunch Ride.
Peck’s is located out in the gulf’s marshes between Crystal River and Homosassa.   Nine miles of twisty Ozello Trail takes you out there.   Everybody raves about Peck’s seafood and rightfully so. The property is also well maintained, clean and comfortable. The whole staff at Peck’s are extremely accommodating.  It is doable for the whole Central gang and some further north and south.  Of course, everyone is invited. Peck’s will not disappoint.  It is definitely worth the ride.

The New Year’s Day Ride to Peck’s lives again!

For our long distance riders, the Quality Inn at 3434 SW College Rd (SR 200), in Ocala, (352-854-3200) would be a good spot to over-night on New Year's eve.   We've used it for our JFF Bike Week outing and it has a number of very nice eateries within easy walking distance.  Peck's is about 1 hour's ride from the hotel.

Sounds like fun and a great tradition to reestablish. Long before I was a member of HSTA/MSTA and learned to ride in Southern California my riding buddies and I would go for a ride every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving when lots of other people were out shopping. Fun times and only saw snow on a couple of those rides.

Rich, I love your idea.  I'm going to give it a try in central Florida.  We should not see snow.

The mountains surrounding Los Angeles provide that bit of winter. I was with them one year (as a passenger) when we hit a nasty bit of black ice.
