Curt Chevlen - remembrance event added
« on: November 23, 2018, 11:09:29 PM »
With great sadness I report that Curt Chevlen has died.  I am told that Curt was driving home on Thanksgiving evening, not feeling well, when he was involved in a car crash.  His wife who was also in the car is reportedly uninjured.  I have not been informed of a cause of death at this time.  I'll report anything further when I hear it.  A memorial service may happen in the coming week.
As you may recall, Curt was badly injured when his motor scooter collided with a left-turning SUV in the summer of 2018.  While in the hospital he learned of the death of his good friend John Romine of Indiana, who had also been in a motorcycle crash.  Curt decided to quit riding.  He seemed to recover rapidly from very serious injuries, but lingering effects were still worrisome.  On Veterans Day he drove sweep in his Miata as a few of us rode to lunch in the cold.  He said it was fun and I hoped that would mean he'd ride with us often in the future just as Tom Rannebarger had.
Curt was a frequent attendee of MSTA events, often seen in the company of Romine, Howard Baumwell and Dave Brickner.  I most recently saw him at our Columbus area happy hour.  He was laughing and making wise cracks as always.  He brought me a box of leftover bits from the FJ-09 I bought from him when he gave up riding.  He seemed optimistic.

When i have more information I will pass it along.

OMG I saw the thread title and feared the worst, Curt was such a great guy I was hoping to see him at some events or lunch rides in the future, now he is gone.

Howard called me this morning and told me of Curt’s passing. I’ve known Curt for many years. He was a great guy. I will miss him a lot. I hope I can get up to Ohio when there is a service.
God Speed Curt!

Truly sad news.  I was looking forward to yakking with Curt at the upcoming club Christmas Party and ribbing each other as we always do.

NOOOOO!    Can’t beleive this.  I was looking forward to seeing him again and sharing a laugh.  I can’t even formulate thoughts right now.

RIP Curt.  I’ll miss you.

Sad to see another longtime, well known and well liked club member and fellow rider is gone. It's a reminder to us all that our days are numbered on this big blue marble, and fortunately none of us know what that number is. Godspeed Curt, may you ride with the angels. Condolences to his family on this no doubt tragic loss.

I heard from Howard that Marty, Curt’s wife said that she wasn’t going to have a service at this time.
I intend to honor his memory every time I ride. He was one of a kind and a great friend.

There was a Facebook posting from one of Curt's daughters and she said the church service would be family-only but they would probably have a Celebration of Life for Curt sometime downstream.

Well then, I guess we will honor the family wishes but sad that we aren't included. However, I hope we will be there in force when the time comes. Ride smooth dear friend.

MSTA members could always do their own thing at some point to remember him. I'm sure some who gather for the holiday party this weekend will share stories and remember him.

When Roger Batestelli (Cleveland) passed the family did have services and many of us attended, some even spoke. The following spring we had a gathering at a park in the morning, along with Roger's brother (maybe 2 of them) donuts & coffee and shared more stories.
