Michelin Pilot Road 5 tires
« on: July 10, 2018, 05:43:34 PM »
I'm due for some new tires on a bike, and have been a fan of the Pilot Road series I believe starting with the 3.  I see that model 5 is now out, and they've dropped the "Pilot" from the name.

I'm wondering if anybody else has used this, and how they compare to the PR4. I found this review, which sounds interesting. Appears they worked on making wet handling better, and for it to last long as the tire wears.

Just started shopping and my usual source (Chaparral Motosports in SoCal) has them at nearly the same price, about 340 a set ($190 rear 180/55-17, $150 front 120/70-17) for my sport touring mount (VFR Interceptor). I'm going to shop around some more, and look for other feedback. These tires have been one of my favorite ever, and I'll continue using them (either 4 or 5).

I haven't got a chance to try the 5 but if it is as good as the PR3 and PR4 it should be a great tire. I love the Michelins on my Honda VTR1000 Superhawk. Besides 5 is my lucky number, so they have to be fantastic. Happy riding, Rob

I put a set on the Boss’s bike just prior to setting out on our summer travels. She has around 6K miles on them to this point and they look fine. She likes the performance as well or better than the previous PR4 tires that were on it. -JEP-

Now that's a ringing endorsement there that after 6k miles still look good. And if they perform as well or better than older versions, good stuff.

Not to mention the flooded roads she rode through in the UP ;)
